There's this odd custom out there that requires professional football teams to practice on football fields. Weird, I know. Unfortunately, the weather does not always cooperate, and while actual games go on in the rain, practices are another matter.
↵That explains why the Washington Redskins held today's practice at a local basketball court. When asked why a basketball court, Mike Shanahan said he preferred that to an airport hangar, which is where they practiced when it last stormed in September. Whatever you say, Mike.
↵I guess I just find this funny because it reminded me of something that happened two years ago. During his first training camp with the Wizards, Flip Saunders decided to let the team throw around the football to start practice once. Saunders called it "Football Saturday," because an event so memorable deserves a mundane name. I wonder if Mike Shanahan will have "Basketball Wednesday" one time. Hopefully he'd come up with a cooler name if he did.
