Even though it's counterintuitive to think this as a Redskins fan, I've enjoyed seeing Mike Shanahan become more snippy with the media as the year has gone on. It's certainly made for entertaining press conferences, when before they were really boring.
↵Today, Shanahan was in top form. First, he responded to Donovan McNabb's claim that he first heard he was the third-string quarterback in the media by calling out McNabb's listening ability.
↵↵↵"I don't know how that's possible, because the first person that I told was him. We actually talked about it for 5-10 minutes," he said. "I'm not sure how that got misinterpreted."
↵And then, he called out Clinton Portis for his comments to 106.7 The Fan about the Redskins playing scared because of McNabb's benching. Here's what Portis said.
↵↵↵
↵↵↵"That Donovan McNabb, who is proven to do so much, and who has done so much in the NFL, gets benched. I think it becomes a thing in the locker room like, 'Man, if they bench Donovan, anybody can be benched. Or am I next or what's next?' And I think guys start playing for safety.
↵"That's really been a big part of the problem around here. People start playing for safety.
↵
And here's what Shanahan said.
↵↵↵"I think Clinton better worry about his stomach and getting well."
↵
Portis has a groin injury, but who's counting?
UPDATE: My fault, Portis' abdomen injury was what put him on IR, so the stomach thing is at least factually correct. Apologies for the error.
