49ers Vs. Redskins Score Update: David Akers Gives San Francisco 3-0 Lead

The first quarter between the Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers saw some big hits, but little offense. Eventually, the 49ers got on the board early in the second quarter with a 52-yard field goal for David Akers.

The highlight for the Redskins was a monster hit by Ryan Kerrigan on Niners quarterback Alex Smith. Kerrigan sent Smith flying on a rollout, Smith impressed by simply holding onto the ball. The lowlight for the Redskins came from the hands of John Beck. He threw an interception at the end of the first quarter, setting San Francisco up with the ball in good field position. San Francisco capitalized on the turnover when David Akers hit a long field goal to take the lead 3-0.
