2011 NFL Mock Draft: Cam Newton Atop Six Teams' Draft Boards, According To Report

The biggest puzzle in the 2011 NFL Draft remains Auburn quarterback Cam Newton, the Heisman Trophy winner that has many questions about his intangibles off the field. However, nobody can deny that he has talent, even though he only showed it for one year.

How talented do general managers think he actually is? So talented that six teams have him ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the entire draft, according to a report by DraftInsider.net. Not just the number one quarterback, but the number one prospect at any position.

Last week in San Antonio at least six different teams said they rank Auburn quarterback Cam Newton as the number one prospect in the draft.  The opinions were comprised from scouts, personnel directors and a few coaches.  All had Newton rated clearly higher than Da'Quan Bowers, Nick Fairley, Marcel Dareus and competing signal caller Blaine Gabbert.  We hear the Miami Dolphins have been inquiring heavily into Newton at this stage of the game.

It's not clear whether the Redskins are one of those six teams, but as SBNation.com's Brian Galliford reminds us, they do need a quarterback. Then again, if this report ends up coming true on draft night, he probably won't be available when the Redskins pick at No. 10 anyway.
