NFL Free Agency: OJ Atogwe Visits Redskins, Does Not Sign Contract

The Redskins did indeed meet with free-agent safety Oshiomogho "OJ" Atogwe at Redskins Park, just days after he was released by the St. Louis Rams. The Redskins have a need at safety, but they did not end up singing Atogwe to a contract just yet, according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post.

Atogwe is eligible to sign a contract anytime irrespective of the lockout situation because nobody controls his rights, but he told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch last Friday when released that he planned to take his time to weigh all his options. After the workout, he did tweet the following message.

Redskins are a great organization. Enjoyed my time there today...

Atogwe had his best season of his career playing for Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett in 2007, and is a definite upgrade over incumbent Kareem Moore. The Redskins were interested in Atogwe last summer, before he signed a five-year, $31.6 million extension with the Rams. The contract guaranteed him an $8 million roster bonus if not cut, so the Rams let him go. Now, his price tag will be significantly less than that.
