The Washington Redskins could use a new quarterback, and many NFL Mock Drafts have the team taking one with the No. 10 pick. It's still unclear whether the Redskins will pull the trigger, but in another sign that they are at least considering it, it appears they are bringing in Auburn quarterback Cam Newton in for a private workout on April 15.
At least that's the report from ESPN 980's Chris Russell:
Just got word that the #Redskins will officially & 'privately' work out former Auburn QB Cam Newton on April 15th!
The development, if true, isn't significant in and of itself because the Redskins bring in players for workouts all the time. However, according to Russell, the Redskins aren't bringing in fellow quarterback prospect Ryan Mallet yet, which is interesting.
Newton, of course, is up there with Blaine Gabbert of Missouri among quarterback prospects, but teams are worried about his maturity and his mechanics.
