With the 2011 NFL Draft just over the horizon, workouts and official team visits will start to pick up in the next few weeks. The Redskins are in need of a quarterback, and one of the top two prospects in the Draft (and one of the biggest lightning rods of controversy) Cam Newton, will be working out for the Redskins in a couple weeks, according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post.
Newton will be at Redskins Park on April 15, his agent, Tony Paige said. The Redskins reportedly are among nine NFL teams that have interviews scheduled with the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback.
According to an ESPN report, the other eight teams that have visits scheduled with Newton are the Carolina Panthers, who hold the first pick in the draft, the Denver Broncos (No. 2 pick), Buffalo Bills (third pick), Cincinnati Bengals (fourth pick), Tennessee Titans (eighth), Minnesota Vikings (12th pick) and the Miami Dolphins (fifteenth pick).
Based on how he has performed at his pro day and at the Combine, Newton will probably be off the board before the Redskins have a chance to draft him 10th overall. But you have to cover all your bases when preparing for the draft.
