The Carolina Panthers have selected quarterback Cam Newton of Auburn with the first pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. After weeks of speculation, the young man that has made his name both on and off the field has now been selected to lead the NFC South Panthers franchise on the turf.
Despite the NFL legal see-saw that has transpired in the last week, Carolina has chosen the dynamic SEC quarterback to lead an anemic Charlotte-based offense in an ultra-competitive division. He has red flags, yes, but his athleticism and play-making made him too hard to pass up for Carolina. Not willing to pass up a possiblr sure-bet, GM Marty Hurney and owner Jerry Richardson said Newton was their guy, and NFL personnel bosses never get it wrong ... right?
So in the corner of a draft room Jimmy Clausen weeps. And John Fox offers a tissue. But enough of the 2010 draft flashbacks.
