With the fifth pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals have taken Patrick Peterson, cornerback from Louisiana State. The pick is a mild surprise, because the Cardinals have several needs that are greater than cornerback. However, the Cardinals have decided to take the best overall player instead, and that player is Patrick Peterson.
The LSU cornerback was rising up the draft boards, and there were teams that were potentially looking to move up in the draft to pick him. Instead, the Cardinals, at least for now, have decided to take and keep him at No. 5. I'm sure many teams are upset about this below them.
Many felt the Cardinals would instead pick Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert with this pick, but instead, Arizona went with Peterson. This thrown Gabbert's status into question. Who knows where he goes at this point.
The Cleveland Browns are now on the clock with the No. 6 pick.
