NFL Free Agents 2011: Should Redskins Pursue Santonio Holmes?

Of many issues, one of the main holes for the Washington Redskins is at the receiver position. With high cap space, the Redskins will likely target Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes, and have reportedly made him a priority. One of the top 2011 NFL free agents and a former Super Bowl MVP, Holmes would be a major sign for Washington.

Pros: With a lackluster receiving core, Holmes would be able to make an immediate impact. Assuming he would become the team's No. 1 receiver, his presence would take pressure off an aging Santana Moss, who would become all the more dangerous as the teams No. 2 if he is re-signed.

Cons: Holmes' maturity has been questioned over the past year after he was suspended for the first four games of the 2010-2011 season for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. For a team that is in need of leaders, off-field problems would crush the team's hopes of a bounce back season.

Verdict: Although the Redskins have had problems with recent big named free agents, Holmes will be high on the Redskins' list during the offseason. Don't be surprised if Holmes is wearing burgundy and gold come September.
