The Washington Redskins' pursuit of Santonio Holmes, one of the top 2011 NFL free agents on the market, is over. Holmes has signed a five-year deal to remain with the New York Jets, according to multiple reports. Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger is one that has the report.
The deal is a five-year contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. ESPN New York's Rich Cimini reports the deal will have $24 million in guaranteed money.
The Redskins were reportedly pursuing Holmes even after re-signing Santana Moss, but Holmes always wanted to remain with the Jets, and now, he has. The Redskins could still go after Sidney Rice of the Vikings or even Holmes' teammate Braylon Edwards, but with Moss back and Donte' Stallworth signed, it's probably a good time to slow down on the wide receiver market.
