Albert Haynesworth Trade To Patriots Occurs After Reports Of Potential Player Unrest

The reported Albert Haynesworth trade to the New England Patriots for a fifth-round draft pick in 2013 may have seemed sudden to some people, but the timing was anything but random. With Washington Redskins training camp scheduled to begin on Thursday, Haynesworth was planning on showing up. This had upset many of Washington's veterans, according to several reports.

Most notably, Jason Reid of the Washington Post reported that players were going to grow tired of answering more Haynesworth questions.

Talked to several Skins veterans about Haynesworth situation. Will not play well in locker room if long-running circus continues.

Similar sentiments were expressed elsewhere, including by Brian Orakpo publicly on Tuesday. The bottom line is that Haynesworth simply had to be moved to prevent the circus atmosphere of training camp last season. As it turned out, he was going to be much more of a distraction than one could have imagined.
