On first and goal from the one yard line, Rex Grossman hit Tim Hightower in the flat to score the first touchdown of the game to give the Redskins a 16-9 lead. It was the exact same play the Skins ran last week to score on the Arizona Cardinals. The touchdown capped a 76 yard drive, with the Skins mixing it up both on the ground and in the air. The big play of the drive was a short pass from Grossman to Santana Moss on a skinny post. Moss gained 36 yards on the play to put the Skins into Dallas territory.
Aside from the scoring drive, Dallas controlled the ball for the rest of the quarter. The Cowboys would cut the lead down to four, on Dan Bailey's fourth field goal of the night. The field goal was set up by a big 29 yard burst up the middle by Felix Jones. Tony Romo connected with Jason Witten for 23 yards, to get the Cowboys just outside the red zone. But the Skins would hold the Cowboys there, limiting them to yet another field goal and the 16-12 lead.
