Lou Spanos To Leave Washington Redskins, Become UCLA Football Defensive Coordinator, Accoring To Report

The Washington Redskins' defensive coaching staff will need yet another newcomer, as linebackers coach Lou Spanos is expected to take the defensive coordinator position with UCLA, according to the Los Angeles Times. Spanos departs after spending two years with the Redskins, helping them transition into a 3-4 defense.

Lou Spanos, linebacker coach for the Washington Redskins, is expected to be hired as UCLA’s defensive coordinator, according to a person familiar with the situation who is not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Spanos' work can be seen with the development of Brian Orakpo, Ryan Kerrigan and Perry Riley, who team with London Fletcher to form one of the stronger linebacking corps in the league. Prior to being with the Redskins, Spanos was an assistant with the Pittsburgh Steelers for 15 years, coaching on three Super Bowl-winning teams.
