The Washington Redskins remain uncertain about the status of their punter, Sav Rocca. The team will decide on Saturday whether or not he will play, according to Tarik El-Bashir.
The veteran hurt his knee while jogging on Thursday, and has not been able to punt. The Redskins invited three punters to audition on Friday as a precaution.
Coach Mike Shanahan told the media, "We're going to test him tomorrow and see how he feels. Hopefully he'll feel okay."
Rocca is also the team's holder for field goals. El-Bashir speculates that holding duties would fall on the replacement punter or backup quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Since joining the Redskins at the beginning of last season, Rocca has not missed a game and has punted 96 times. This season, Rocca has already had two punts blocked, leading all NFL punters in that category.
Prior to joining for the Redskins, Rocca was the Philadelphia Eagles' punter for four seasons. Now in his sixth season, Rocca has never missed a game in his career.
