Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III was named the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Month on Thursday. Griffin completed 69.4-percent of his passes for 1,070 yards with four touchdowns and a passer rating of 103.2 in the month of September. Griffin III, who also has four rushing touchdowns, leads all rookies in passing yardage, completion percentage and passer rating after four games.

The former Heisman Trophy winner becomes the first Redskins rookie to win a monthly honor since linebacker Ryan Kerrigan was named Defensive Rookie of the Month last September. He becomes the first Washington rookie to win Offensive Rookie of the Month since offensive tackle Chris Samuels earned the honor in 2000.

Last Sunday, Griffin completed 26 of his 35 passes for a season-best 323 yards to help Washington defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24-22, and improve its record to 2-2 overall. This was Griffin's second 300-yard passing game as he tossed for 320 and two touchdown against the New Orleans Saints in the season opener, a 40-32 victory.

Overall, Griffin has thrown just one interception in four games.
