Panthers vs. Redskins score update: Carolina leads Washington, 14-3, at halftime

The Panthers and Cam Newton lead the Redskins, 14-3, at halftime Sunday.

A late touchdown pass gave the Carolina Panthers a 14-3 lead over the Washington Redskins at halftime of Sunday's game.

The Panthers upped their lead with less than a minute left in the second quarter. Cam Newton hit Steve Smith for a 19-yard touchdown with 57 seconds left. The extra point gave Carolina the 14-3 edge.

Carolina owned a 7-3 lead after the first quarter.

Robert Griffin III is 9-for-13 for 73 yards. He has't been sacked or committed a turnover.

Alfred Morris has been good on the ground for the Redskins. He has rushed for 54 yards on 10 carries. Griffin has 15 yards on three carries in the first half.

Josh Morgan leads all Washington receivers with four catches for 40 yards.

Newton has been efficient for Carolina, completing 8 of 14 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. DeAngelo Williams, who rushed for a touchdown in the first quarter, has two carries for 34 yards. Tight end Greg Olsen has three catches for 38 yards for the Panthers.

Reed Doughty has seven total tackles for Washington.
