The Super Bowl was a great game this year with a half-time show that has been reviewed much better than the debacle featuring the Black Eyed Peas last year. So you have to figure the game got a higher viewership than the game last year, right? Turns out that may not be the case.
Small correx on the overnights. I'm now being told that it's a 47.8 (not 47.9), which is down a tenth of a ratings point from last year.— John Ourand (@Ourand_SBJ) February 6, 2012
There was one part of the game that did pretty well with ratings, but it didn't have anything to do with football, unfortunately.
Madonna is more popular than the NFL. Source says the halftime show drew a 48.3 overnight, which is higher than the game's 47.8.— John Ourand (@Ourand_SBJ) February 6, 2012
I get it, the halftime show brings in all the people already watching the game and those just interested in that spectacle. It still just doesn't sit right that the least-football thing I've ever seen beat a pretty darn good football game in ratings.
