The Redskins got some capable performances from Roy Helu and Evan Royster last year as fill-ins for some of the Redskins veteran running backs. One of those backs was Tim Hightower who came to the team just last year and missed most of the year with a knee injury. He's a free agent, and according to Rich Campbell of the Washington Times, Mike Shanahan and the Redskins want to bring Hightower back into the fold.
"We’re trying to re-sign Hightower," Shanahan said. "You’re just hoping that he comes back full speed from his knee with the ACL. But, yeah, he’s a potential starter on our football team. . . It looks like he’ll be back full speed ready to go."
Shanahan also said that the Redskins plan to add some more running backs before training camp and want to have about five or six on the roster before the Summer comes to a close. Helu, Royster and Tristan Davis are the favorites to be a part of that stable as of right now.
