Redskins Release Wide Receiver Jabar Gaffney, According To Report

Leading up to the 2012 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins made some efforts to trade wide receiver Jabar Gaffney, even allowing him to contact other teams to see if he could find a suitable deal. A trade did not materialize, and as a result, the Redskins have released Gaffney on Tuesday morning.

Gaffney was the Redskins leading receiver last year and enjoyed somewhat of a career resurgence after a few down years. He had 68 receptions for 947 yards and five touchdowns, and was the only real threat on the outside for much of the season. But with the additions of Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan, and the hopeful return of Santana Moss and Leonard Hankerson, Gaffney found himself as an expensive option who was on the outside looking in.

And besides, the team already gave his No. 10 to Robert Griffin III.
