Redskins Training Camp 2012: Kentwan Balmer Has Gone AWOL

Here are a few facts about Kentwan Balmer: He was drafted in 2008 by the San Francisco 49ers with the 29th overall pick. He played for two years in San Francisco, spent 2010 with Seattle, and played in three games for the Redskins in 2011 after the team signed him as a free agent in November of that year.

And he hasn't been seen at Redskins Park in two days. According to the Post's Mike Jones:

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Wednesday evening that Balmer's absence was unexcused, and at that time the coach didn't know why Balmer wasn't at practice, or where he was.

"Hopefully it's nothing very serious," Shanahan said.

Jones points out that this is not the first time that Shanahan has had to deal with something like this (no, this is not an Albert Haynesworth joke). Back in 2011, James Davis went AWOL and was later released after becoming unhappy with his playing time. Davis has not been seen in the NFL since.

Of course, no one's sure what Balmer's issue is, because no one has been able to get in touch with him. Like Shanahan, we hope it's nothing serious.
