Robert Griffin III Named NFC Player Of The Week

Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III has been named the NFC Player of the Week, according to a press release by the NFL.

In his debut, Griffin completed 19 of 26 passes for 320 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Redskins' 40-32 win over the New Orleans Saints in the regular season opener at the Super Dome last Sunday. He finished the game with a passer rating of 139.9 (a perfect passer rating is 158.3).

Griffin set several rookie records against the Saints, which included becoming the first player in NFL history to pass for at least 300 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception in his debut as well as becoming the first rookie to throw for 300 yards and win his first game. He now joins John Elway as the only rookie quarterbacks to start the season with a road victory against a team who was undefeated at home in the previous year.
