It's extremely rare for an NBA team to name a rookie a team captain, but as has become evident, John Wall is no ordinary rookie. His biggest strength, after all, is his leadership, even more than his breathtaking speed or his passing ability.
↵Today, Flip Saunders confirmed what many suspected: that Wall would likely be one of the team's captains despite being just 20 years old. Via Truth About It:
↵↵↵Flip Saunders sounds pretty sure that John Wall & Kirk Hinrich will remain team captains heading into the season.

It's not like the Wizards have too many other options besides Wall. Gilbert Arenas is moping, Andray Blatche still needs to prove himself and Josh Howard is only on a one-year contract. That said, it's still significant that Wall has been given this honor right away. As has been pointed out, Wall's closest NBA comparison, Derrick Rose, still hasn't been named a Bulls captain yet.
