Fans of the Boston Celtics have taken over the seats at Verizon Center, and now the players have taken over the court as well.
Much of this game hasn't been as close as the score. The Celtics even removed many of their players to start the second quarter as their lead had already blossomed to 15. The Washington Wizards did manage to cut the lead to just six points at one instance in the second quarter, but Boston continues to be the much better team, and leads by 10 points at halftime.
The Celtics' big stars have all made their presence felt in the opening 24 minutes of action. Kevin Garnett has 11 points, Ray Allen has 10, and Paul Pierce has nine. Point guard Rajon Rondo, matched up against John Wall for much of the half, has nine points and seven assists. Washington forward Rashard Lewis leads all scorers with 12 points.
Wizards newcomer Mustafa Shakur, signed today to a 10-day contract and arriving in Washington just three hours prior to tip-off, entered the game for his first time ever in the NBA with 4:26 remaining in the first quarter. Due to Kirk Hinrich's injury last night and Wall picking up two early fouls, Shakur could see significant minutes tonight. He was held his on so far, and even looked occasionally impressive.
