The Ronny Turiaf trade to the Washington Wizards is not official, but it may as well be. Multiple reports have confirmed that the New York Knicks have dealt Turiaf to Washington in a salary dump to create room to sign Tyson Chandler. Howard Beck of the New York Times has confirmed that the Knicks have simultaneously worked out a deal with Chandler and sent Turiaf to Washington.
The Wizards will not have to trade anything back to acquire Turiaf because they can absorb his salary by being under the salary cap. Turiaf has one year and $4.36 million left on his contract. Michael Lee of the Washington Post reports that the Wizards have pulled their qualifying offer for Othyus Jeffers in an attempt to solidify that open cap space.
Turiaf averaged 4.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in 17.8 minutes per contest for the Knicks last season. He missed 18 games due to injury.
