The Washington Wizards were hoping to rebound from a loss to open the 2011 NBA season, but instead they fall to the Atlanta Hawks 101-83. The Hawks jumped out to a nine point lead after the first quarter and continued to build their lead. The Wizards simply put the Hawks on the free throw line way too many times, as the Hawks shot 28 of 35 from the line.
The Wizards fought back a bit in the second half, but the deficit was just too much for the team to overcome. John Wall picked up 22 points and six assists while Nick Young picked up 21 points off the bench. The Hawks got contributions from Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams, and Josh Smith who picked up 18, 17, and 15 respectively.
