2011 NBA Draft: Washington Wizards Have Not Contacted Timberwolves About No. 2 Pick, According To Report

Thursday, word spread on twitter that the Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards were the two teams working hardest to trade up and obtain the #2 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft from the Minnesota Timberwolves. But Michael Lee of the Washington Post reports these rumors right now are, well, just that - rumors.

The rumor may have excited many Wizards fans, but as of right now, the team is not one of "the most active teams" trying to get the second overall pick from Minnesota, according to multiple league sources. That doesn’t mean that the Wizards aren’t high on Arizona forward Derrick Williams (they are) or that they won’t eventually make an aggressive pitch before the June 23 draft (they just might), it just hasn’t happened yet.

Lee also mentions that a source close to the situation says the Wizards have not even contacted Minnesota yet about a deal. Obviously, there is still plenty of time before the June 23rd draft to work out a deal, so don't start sending Ernie Grunfeld hate mail just yet Wiz fans. He has the sixth pick to work with, but I am still not sure Washington has any other assets that appeal to the Timberwolves. But Ernie, please, keep telling Minnesota how great Andray Blatche and JaVale McGee are. Maybe David Kahn will bite. The guy did sign Darko Milicic to a four year, 20 million dollar deal, so he is obviously insane.
