WASHINGTON, D.C. - Move over, hard hat. There's a new symbol in the Washington Wizards' locker room, and it corresponds with the team's slogan last year.
Well, that's not entirely correct, because the hard hat is still given out after every Wizards practice, but the team has cooked up something different for games: a coin with the phrase "game-changer" on it. Trevor Booker revealed that rookie Jan Vesely got the coin after the Wizards' 93-78 win over the Toronto Raptors. and the story was on.
"He got the game-changer tonight," Booker said. "He's going out there, and he did everything we needed him to do. It was big for us."
But what is a "game-changer" coin, exactly?
Good question. Everyone I asked didn't have much to say about it.
"It's a 'Game-changer' coin," Vesely said, declining to show it to me or say anything more.
"It's a big ol' coin that says 'Game-changer,'" John Wall said.
"It's a little coin that has 'Game-changer' on it," Booker said.
Two Wizards team personnel I asked had no idea what I was talking about. Real helpful, all you guys.
Here's what I can tell you for sure. For one, it's not an actual piece of currency -- Wall confirmed that much. Second, and more importantly, Tuesday night was only the second time it's been given out. That tends to happen to teams that are winless coming into the game.
Oh, and that first time it was handed out? Can't tell you that either. Nobody said. Sorry, guys. I obviously need to do some more digging here.
