The Washington Wizards have opened the season with an 0-8 record and remain the league's only winless team, so it should come as no surprise they place dead last in SB Nation's NBA power rankings. This past week's action included losses to the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic, New York Knicks, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Tom Ziller, SB Nation's NBA editor, writes that Wizards coach Flip Saunders "is trying desperately to fall on his own sword," but is failing. A report Monday indicated Saunders' job is safe for now despite his team's poor start.
Three of the Wizards' four rivals in the Southeast Division rank in the top 12 in this list, meaning their climb will be exceptionally difficult. The Miami Heat rank No. 1, with the Atlanta Hawks close behind at No. 4 and Orlando at No. 12. The Charlotte Bobcats, at 2-6, come in at No. 26, so they're closer to Washington's level than the rest of the Southeast is.
