The Washington Wizards play their home opener against the Boston Celtics on Saturday night, as the NBA hits high gear for its first full weekend of action.
Washington lost on the road in their season debut, 94-84, to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, and will host a Celtics team that fell to the defending champion Miami Heat, 120-107, on the same night.
Friday night's 12-game slate includes the New York Knicks opening their season in Madison Square Garden against the Heat, James Harden and the new-look Houston Rockets in Atlanta against the Hawks, the Oklahoma City Thunder playing their home opener against the Portland Trail Blazers and the winless Los Angeles Lakers playing their Staples Center-sharing rival L.A. Clippers in the nightcap.
Along with the Wizards Saturday night, the Brooklyn Nets open the Barclays Center against the Toronto Raptors. The Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers play in a matinee Sunday afternoon, and other Sunday match-ups include the Hawks and Thunder and the Detroit Pistons in Los Angeles facing the Lakers later at night.
