When the season ended in late April, this wasn't exactly expected. Nonetheless, it has become increasingly likely that interim head coach Randy Wittman will return to the Washington Wizards next season in the same capacity, according to several reports Tuesday.
Earlier this afternoon, Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that Wittman was "likely" to return to the team. Subsequently, SB Nation DC columnist and ESPN 980 co-host Scott Jackson reported that Wittman will in fact be back after he spoke with team president Ernie Grunfeld on Tuesday.
After taking over for Flip Saunders in January, Wittman went 18-31 over the remainder of the year, including a six-game winning streak to end the season. In his decision to retain Wittman, Grunfeld cited the coach's relationship with the players when speaking with Jackson.
