The Washington Wizards are going over every possible thing to do with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. The Wizards have been linked with several players, such as Florida Gators guard Bradley Beal and Kansas Jayhawks forward and D.C. native Thomas Robinson.
The one player that seems to be a popular name for the Wizards to draft is Kentucky Wildcats forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Sports Illustrated's NBA writer Sam Amick believe that the Wizards will draft him in his latest mock draft.
The Wizards' trade of young, maturity-challenged center JaVale McGee to Denver for veteran center Nene in March had as much to do with changing their culture as it did adding to the talent pool. In that regard, Kidd-Gilchrist would be a phenomenal fit. He was a leader of the highest order at Kentucky. His focus on defense would set the right kind of tone for a rebuilding team, and he also has the ability to get to the rim at will.
An emphasis on defense is certainly the way to go for a team like the Wizards right now. While they ended the season well, they need impact players to help improve the team for the 2012-13 season.
